High Chief Maja Umeh, Ichoku Awka, Whom The Cap Fits!

The legendary Late Robert Nesta Marley must have had the likes of the illustrious son of Anambra State, High Chief Maja Umeh, Okwoaka Amichi in mind when he crooned to the delight of many: ‘And who The cap fit, let them wear it!’ Marley’s seminal testimonial lends credence to the exploits and exemplary leadership qualities of this scion of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government who is recognized by the Awka community led by His Royal Majesty, Obi Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu II as ICHOKU AWKA, a traditional title seen as fitting finale to a grand year 2017.
A 1984 graduate of Political Science from the University of Nigeria (UNN) and alumnus of the prestigious Christ The King College (CKC), Onitsha, Maja’s proven intelligence, pragmatism and uncanny wisdom has over the years seen him excel in various positions of trust and responsibility. Maja is a generous and kind-hearted man whose appeal cuts across both young and old.
Indeed, Maja’s resume is a scroll honourable service to fellow man and the community. A chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), whose wealth of experience and diplomatic bearing counted to great effect as Chairman Anambra State APGA Reconciliation Committee 2016.
He is a two-term Hon Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism in Anambra State until June 2012, Special Adviser on Political Matters to former Governor Peter Obi as well as Executive Director of Aldove Limited, a firm of management Consultants and Realtors. Earlier, Chief Umeh was a lecturer at Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna in 1984-1985 after earlier a stint in the public service at Federal Department of Agriculture, Enugu.

Chief Maja Umeh attended many courses and seminars at both local and international level. He is also winner of several international and local awards. These include; Distinguished Service Award of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Henry Dunant Gold Merit Award for Service by the Nigerian Red Cross, and Distinguished Alumni Award 2011 by UNN to mention but a few.
As the Awka community recognizes this consummate politician and great mobilizer, bridge-builder and counselor on 30th December 2017, all men and women of goodwill are enjoined to roll out the drums and applaud this worthy son and statesman.
