Presidential Poll: We didn’t endorse Atiku – Ohaneze Ndigbo

Published

on

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo has denied endorsing Atiku Abubarkar, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 16 presidential election.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Chuks Ibegbu, disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu at a media briefing to mark the second anniversary of the current executive of the organisation.
Mr Ibegbu said the clarification became necessary following misconceptions on the event of November 14, 2018 where some Igbo leaders endorsed the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar for presidency.
It would be recalled that some Igbo leaders had during a meeting in Enugu attended by Mr Abubakar and the national leaders of the PDP including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki endorsed Atiku.
Mr Ibegbu, however, clarified that the said endorsement was done by the friends of Mr Abubakar, adding that the organisation had not endorsed any particular candidate.
The deputy national publicity secretary said that the organisation needed to be circumspect, “as our children are in all the political parties.’
“It is erroneous to say that we endorsed Atiku. Ohaneze Ndigbo did not endorse anybody. That meeting at Nike Lake Resort was organised by friends of Atiku.
“However, due to our peculiar circumstance in the country, we will identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria if voted into power,” he said.
He said the organisation would soon meet to take a holistic position on the 2019 general elections.
“Ohaneze Ndigbo has been canvassing for our people to identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria.

“We still stand on that and in the next few days we shall meet to take a holistic position on the elections,” he said.
Mr Ibegbu noted that within the two years in office of the John Nwodo led Ohaneze Ndigbo, “we have given our modest contribution by re-jigging Igbo leadership and issues concerning our people”.
He said the current leadership of the organisation had built synergy with its affiliate groups with a view to achieving unity in the area.
He said the dexterity and leadership acumen of Mr Nwodo had positively affected the relationship between the organisation and other ethnic socio-cultural associations in the country.
“This has earned the president general an award as ‘Bridge Builder of the Nation’, which will be presented to him on January 17 by Daily Independent Newspapers,” Mr Ibegbu said.

APGA Vice Presidential Candidate Chukwueke Knocks Federal Allocation Sharing Formula

Published

on

The Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA in this year’s general elections, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, says the party has evidently proved its mettle in good governance and delivery of democracy dividends in Anambra State, pointing out that APGA has
the capacity to extrapolate the Anambra model to other parts of the country if voted into office.
Chief Chukwueke who stated this in Enugu, during a meeting with APGA candidates maintained that restructuring of the Nigerian-Nation for a return to true federalism would largely address the imbalance in the socio-economic development and growth of the country.

The APGA Vice Presidential candidate frowned at the sharing formula of crude oil revenues in the country, observing that the formula is stultifying initiatives, ingenuity and encouraging laziness among the country’s federating units and geopolitical zones.
On the perennial herdsmen-farmers clashes in some parts of country, Chief Chukwueke said APGA government would resolve the matter by encouraging massive establishment of cattle ranches in the country.
The Enugu State APGA candidates interactive forum with the party’s Vice Presidential candidate was equally addressed by the gubernatorial candidate of the party in Enugu State, Chief Emmanuel Nwakpa, the party’s candidate for Enugu-East Senatorial District Chief Uchenna Nwegbo, and his counterpart for Enugu-West Senatorial district, Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu among others.

APC Text : Atiku, PDP and Their Drama Troupe

Published

on

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and some leaders of their travelling theatre group took their troupe to Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State yesterday. In their usual way, they spent hours in the sun, made a lot of noise, and left without making any statement worthy of note.
Like millions of Nigerians who are wondering how PDP got to this level of shamelessness, our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is equally bemused by the manner the once boisterous political party degenerated into this current pitiful state.
It is shocking to see the few leaders of PDP who are still showing up in the public for campaign alongside the discredited Alhaji Atiku, standing before the paltry crowd in the Lokoja stadium, blowing hot air, stomping the platform, and making empty promises.
What did the PDP promise the people of Kogi State? Nothing. It is that bad. Understandably, it must have been a very difficult situation for the PDP leaders to face the people of Kogi State to ask for support to return to power. Perhaps, many of them must have travelled on the Abuja – Lokoja express road that was awarded in 2001 when Atiku was the Vice President. What explanation did they have for the Kogi people on why the less than 200 kilometres road was not completed for 15 years while the party was still in power? Did it worry their conscience when they sighted the Sukuk billboard on the road, showing how President Buhari is completing the project? Lest we forget, the Abuja – Lokoja road is one of the most important highways in this country. The road connects the South South, the South East, the South West and part of the North Central to the federal capital territory, Abuja. It has huge implications for the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of this country. This road became a conduit pipe for the PDP government to fleece this country of billions of naira every year, for one and half decade.
The Obajana – Kabba road was impassable for over a decade. It is although less than 60 kilometres, but it links the Kogi west zone to the rest of the country. Many PDP leaders who rode on the road to the rally in Lokoja must have been ashamed of themselves to see the road nearing completion under the APC administration. We hope Atiku and his other jokers found time to see the Itakpe – Warri railway project that was awarded over three decades ago, which the APC administration has just completed. Did they also see the Lokoja – Okene highway under construction?
The PDP needs to be reminded that while it has no antecedents of completing projects it inherited or initiated from 1999 to 2015 due to the rapacious disposition of its leaders, the APC administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari, has made it a cardinal policy to complete abandoned projects it inherited and to start new ones that have high impact for the economy recovery of our country.
We know the PDP leaders didn’t have the time to visit the market women. They are not in the class of the people they would like to meet. For 16 years of their ignoble rule, they had nothing for these market women. Neither did they have for the farmers. We hope they will find time to visit these very important Nigerians when next their theatre group stage a drama anywhere in the country. We encourage them to learn from the APC government and take a few lessons from how the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been relating with the common people to feel their pulse. They should visit these people to see the impact the APC administration’s social investment programmes are making on the common people.
All the PDP leaders have been shouting is hunger everywhere they go. Nigerians understand clearly what this means. The APC administration has denied the pillagers who have found a home in PDP access to the resources of this country. In the past, during the unfortunate reign of PDP, it was the common Nigerians who were crying of hunger. As President Muhammadu Buhari noted, yesterday, during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, the leaders of PDP had become used to taking for themselves the resources that belonged to all of us. Each time these political marauders cry of hunger, this administration is reassured that we are doing the right thing. The era when people who are privileged to find themselves in public office abuse their positions with reckless abandon has come to an end. Public office shall never be a licence to our commonwealth.
Meanwhile, we join the people of this country as they wait for the next fallacious allegation the sinking PDP would make against our President, his family members, the Vice President, the national chairman of our party, and other notable members of our party.

Conduct Your Campaign Peacefully or Face Rejection, Obiano Admonishes Political Class

Published

on

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has admonished political parties and their candidates participating in the forthcoming general election to conduct their campaigns peacefully or face humiliation by the people at the polls.
“Anambra State has gone far beyond the stage of violent politics and any person or group that attempts to bring back violence into the electioneering campaign or the body politic will be rejected outright by Ndi Anambra”, Obiano stated in an interview with the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, on his prognosis for 2019.
“Of course, one of the biggest challenges facing our state in the new year is to conduct a free, fair and transparent election, even though there will be no gubernatorial vote in Anambra State because we held ours last November 17 and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) swept the polls in each of the 21 local government areas in the state in an unprecedented manner.
“Ndi Anambra rose like one person against one or two candidates in the November 17 gubernatorial election who tried to introduce thuggery and violence in the campaign and they were consequently defeated right in their wards.
“Even a particular political party which threatened to destroy the three beautiful flyovers we built in Awka, instead of pledging to help build our beloved state if elected, infuriated our people by its utterances and they voted massively against it.
“Our people desire messages of hope and optimism rather than threats of destructions.
“Ndi Anambra truly abhor violent conduct by the political class”.
Analysts regard last year’s gubernatorial election in the state as the freest, the most peaceful and the most transparent ever conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
“There was no incident of violence before or during the election, nor was there any controversy after the result had been announced”, the governor recalled.
“The candidates who ran against me were compelled to accept, together with their parties, the outcome of the historic vote.

“They congratulated me in writing and at press conferences, and some were present at my second inauguration last March 18”.
Describing the sportsmanship exhibited by his political rivals as a remarkable departure from tradition, Obiano noted that in the past that elections in the state were the most intractable in the country’s courts and even culminated in the kidnapping of the state governor and mayhem lasting three days in the state by members of even the same party.
The governor revealed that the peaceful campaign for last year’s gubernatorial election was part of his strategy to make Anambra the first state for consideration by investors.
“Finance is a coward, and it goes to only places it is not likely to be threatened”, he declared, adding “as the state governor it was incumbent on me to lead by personal example, as the great Professor Chinua Achebe advised Nigerian leaders in 1983 when he published his famous political treatise entitled The Trouble With Nigeria.
He said that even though he is not a candidate in the 2019 general election, he is “obliged morally and legally to ensure that Anambra remains very peaceful and stable.
“Our reputation as Nigeria’s safest state, Nigeria’s most peaceful state and the state with the highest level of social cohesion has rekindled investor confidence in Anambra”, Obiano observed.
“The result is the unprecedented investments in the state running into billions of dollars in the last four years.
“Therefore, any attempt to thwart the social harmony in the state will be resisted by our people who will fight the anti-social forces with every drop of blood they have, including mobilizing electorally against the offenders and ostracizing them politically and eternally”.

Emir Of Ilorin Restates His Political Neutrality

Published

on

The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has maintained neutrality on his political stance as he says whichever party emerges victorious at the general elections would be supported.

The Emir stated this while receiving members of the state executive of the All Progressives Congress who paid him a courtesy call at his palace.
Briefing journalists after his meeting with the emir, the state APC chairman, Bashir Bolarinwa explained that the emir said he is a father to all and will not discriminate against any party. He also advised that politicians play by the rules just as the electorate should avoid crisis that could lead to mayhem before, during and after the elections.

He restated the fact that his executive is the recognized one as the court judgment only nullified the caretaker committee and not the duly constituted committee.
Bashir noted that the party campaigns will not dwell on name-calling but will be issue based.

GENERAL GBOR VOWS TO DEFEAT BOKO HARAM IN RECORD TIME

Published

on

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, retired General John Gbor, has vowed to swiftly defeat the Boko Haram insurgents and stop the herdsmen/farmers clashes in Northern Nigeria if elected into office.

General Gbor who gave this assurance in a recent interview with Channels television said his administration would accomplish the project without fear or favour.
He described Boko Haram insurgency as another civil war by misguided youths being sponsored by foreign based Islamic fundamentalist groups.
The APGA presidential standard bearer maintained that Boko Haram would be easily defeated if necessary logistic support was given to the military to motivate soldiers in battle field carry out their assignments professionally as they did in Liberia and Sierra Leone to end the civil wars in the two West African Countries.
General Gbor also said that Nigeria under his watch would work in synergy with neighbouring countries such as Chad, Niger and Cameroun to effectively vanquish and checkmate the Boko Haram menace.
The APGA presidential candidate also extolled Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for establishing what he described as “the best security infrastructure” among states in Nigeria as well as the West and Central Africa sub-regions.
General Gbor advised other state governors in the country to emulate the incumbent Anambra governor in the provision of good governance and delivery of democracy dividends to the masses, pointing out that APGA has used state to showcase what it would do for Nigeria when it takes over the mantle of leadership after this year’s general elections.

NIGERIA’S RESURGENCE IS SURE WITH APGA

Published

on

The world had watched with huge expectations at the birth of a giant and the berth of hope for Africa 58 years ago. However it is with dismay and apprehension that they watch as Nigeria continue to edge towards colossal and disastrous collapse; callously sabotaged by successive plethora of maladministration.

There had been debates over the dip in the fortunes of the giant of Africa. There had also been efforts by national and international organisations, financial institutions, and other concerned agencies at rescuing the fallen giant. Billions of dollars had been expended at this effort. Humongous loans had been granted, huge debts were written off and more loans had been given, yet the problem persists.

Internally, budgets had continued to increase exponentially, rising from millions to billions and currently running into thrillions, yet the giant slumbers in petrified coma, sinisterly induced by the now known chameleonic characters running the affairs of the country since the 70s.

They have traversed the political scape of Nigeria, through the juntas to civilian administrations entrenching corruption, avarice, nepotism, ethnicism and worst of all, running the economy aground. They took turns to perpetuate thievery in government; conscripting bootlicking lieutenants across ages and divides to aid the devilish and consistent looting of our common patrimony.

They evolved to take over a strong, focused and patriotic platform that metamorphosed into the PDP in 1999 and after 16 years of brute, vampiric and barbaric gang raping of the mother ship, they abandoned her in droves, jumping ship to join the change carrier – APC. Indeed, they changed but only in colours; the monsters remain unchanged, veiled only by body languages and exclusive deodorants.

It seemed however that the nepotic tendencies of the ‘change god-head’ and the flagrant spray of insecticides on perceived competitors to the exalted Aso throne or the selective access to the national cake, had driven co-change apostles to a quick detour and hasty repair of the previously abandoned PDPship.

Truism suggests however, that both ships are same, different only in sails and cargoes. Filled to capacity with decay and rot, they struggle against economic currents and tides. Their gluttonic appetite drive them to loot more, sucking up the country’s resources in blind greed while throwing it’s great potentials over board in vain attempts to stay afloat.

But surely they will sink and the time is nigh. The Giant awakens to the Cock’s crow and the days of slumbering are over. APGA is the brand new ship. The stern is firm and the sails are strong. There’s room for all and none shall be left behind. John Gbor and Jerry Chukwueke are the captains and flag bearers and the vision is clear: To stop corruption, favouritism, avarice, nepotism and bring thievery, looting, ethnicism and tribalism to an end.

The mission is to steer the Nigerian ship to a different but positive direction. The PDP and APC had sailed in the same direction for years without any positive result. It would amount to crass stupidity for the country to continue in the same direction and expect anything different. APGA is poised to return Nigeria to the path of growth. The roadmap is clear and there are performance indices as shown in Anambra state to prove this.

A new and resurgent Nigeria is possible. However, the baton of leadership needs to change hands. We are again at the watershed of history. This is 2019 and in about a month’s time, the country shall go to the polls to select new leaders. It behoves on Nigerians to stand resolute and decide their future. Reality is choice and it is here presented between those who dragged this great nation to the sty and those with the ability to introduce our renaissance and bring egalitarianism, justice and progress to all.

APGA’s Gbor and Chukwueke are in the presidential race to ensure a resurgent Nigeria. It is our collective responsibility to hand them the baton. Let’s get set with our PVCs and resoundingly vote APGA for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
