Mama Taraba disqualified in APC governorship race – Full List

Published

on

Aisha Alhassan, famously known as Mama Taraba has been disqualified from running for the governorship seat of the state by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress.
Her disqualification was made known today in a statement listing all the governorship aspirants taking part in the direct and indirect primaries of the party on Friday.
She was disqualified by the screening committee of the NWC. No reason was stated.
But last year, Aisha showed some disloyalty to the party and President Buhari when she said she would support former vice-president Atiku Abubakar in a leadership race against Buhari.
Also disqualified were Chief Osiobe Eric Okotie in Delta state
and Barr. Ejikeme Ugwu in Enugu state.
In Niger state, the only aspirant against against incumbent Governor Sani Bello was disqualified. He is Abubakar Maman Jiya Maaji. This also happened in Kebbi state, where the aspirant against Governor Atiku Bagudu was also axed. He is Ibrahim Mohammed Mera.
Ebonyi, Imo states have nine candidates each. Imo’s aspirants include the deputy governor Eze Madumere and Senator Hope Uzodinma, along with Governor Rochas Okorocha’s in-law, Uche Nwosu.
Borno has the highest number of aspirants, 21 in all, jostling to succeed Governor Kashim Shettima.
A missing name in the list of aspirants in Rivers State was the 2015 candidate, Dakuku Peterside. He was not among the listed aspirants, that include oil mogul Tonye Cole and Senator Magnus Abe.

We Can’t Expect People Who Destroyed Our Past To Improve Our Future – YPP’s Getso

Published

on

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Umma Getso, has warned that it will be a mistake to expect those who have governed Nigeria before to solve its problems.
She said this on Friday during the NEDG/BON Vice-Presidential Debate, which was held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
“To be candid, YPP is a party that is here to bring a new thing,” she said.
“It is a party that is founded with the new ideology to bring a new set of politicians because we cannot expect people who destroyed our past to come and improve our future tomorrow.”
According to her, her party will, among other things, focus on girl-child education if voted into power.
“I have a passion for the girl-child education and I spent the early part of my adulthood in the development of the common Nigerian,” she said.
Getso who briefly introduced herself as the daughter of a former Senator from Bauchi State stated that her background had equipped her to serve people well.
She explained that her belief that Nigeria would get better prompted her to join the race with YPP’s presidential candidate, Professor Kingsley Moghalu.
While stressing that Nigerians were yearning for better leadership, Getso stated that the YPP was committed to creating that paradigm shift in leadership styles.
She added, “As a mother of three, I have been through the lowest level of Nigeria’s standard of living and I know how Nigerians are suffering. I know that there is no substantial thing from 1999 till date that a typical Nigerian will show today.”

Knocks for Peter Obi for quoting dubious statistics

Published

on

Fact checkers went to work Friday night to puncture some of the statistics quoted by Peter Obi, the vice-presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party at the live TV debate at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
In arguing that petrol subsidy that he estimated to be a trillion naira a year was a waste, Obi said there are only two million vehicles in Nigeria.
Fact-checking revealed otherwise. According to National Bureau of Statistics(NBS), Nigeria has over 11.5million vehicles on the road, as at 2017.
Obi also claimed that intra-African trade is just a mere 9 per cent. He was proven wrong. Intra-African trade, according to Afreximbank Africa Trade Report 2018, is estimated at 15 per cent. In 2016, this was estimated at 18 per cent of its total exports and imports. IMF even gave an estimate of 20 per cent of the total trade volume of about one trillion dollars.
Obi was correct when he said oil exports still accounts for 80 per cent of Nigeria’s dollar revenue. However, oil contribution to GDP has dwindled to about 10 per cent, according to NBS.
But he was caught out when he claimed that his administration as governor of Anambra state was the first to buy up to 30,000 computers for schools. Twitterati said Governor Kayode Fayemi bought more in his first term in Ekiti State. He reportedly bought 48,000 Samsung laptops, 30,000 for students and 18,000 for teachers.
Despite the statistical goofs, Obi was praised by many PDP sympathisers for his performance during the debate.
Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state, who had not tweeted for a long time, wrote:

Presidency Dismissed Recent Utterances By Obasanjo, Tags It A Sign Of Confusion

Published

on

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said that whomever Obasanjo chooses to support at the 2019 elections is irrelevant, as the former president had publicly changed his mind on the matter so many times over the past few months alone.
Shehu added that he was not surprised that newspapers reported Obasanjo expressing neutrality at a weekend forum, only for the former president to express a completely different stance after a day or two.
In the words of the Presidential media aide:
“We have learnt not to take his utterances seriously anymore.
“We know that the slightest wind can make him change his mind again. After all, this is the same man who publicly tore his party registration card barely four years ago, and he now claims to be backing the same party,”

Group dares Atiku to use U.S. Visa, offers 1st class tickets

Published

on

No Alternative To Buhari-Osinbajo 2019, a political campaign group, has dared the presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to make use of his widely acclaimed United States Visa.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Coordinator, Mr Vincent Uba, the group dared Atiku to prove to Nigerians and the World that he was not ‘a persona non grata’ to the World’s biggest democracy, the U.S.
It stated that just as the Party, the PDP widely celebrated the acclaimed Visa, Nigerians had expected that the PDP candidate would have already travelled.
The group therefore offered to pay first class return tickets on any flight for Atiku to prove the validity of his United States Visa.
“In making this offer, the NATBuhariOsinbajo is not unaware that Mr Atiku Abubakar, though, stupendously and inexplicably rich could be conserving his funds to, in his characteristics manner, attempt to buy as much votes as possible on election day.
“However, this offer to Mr Atiku Abubakar has become necessary to ensure that only persons who are not subject of corrupt enrichment and/or FBI investigations offers themselves for highest office in Nigeria.
“As Nigerians cannot afford to have the nation’s image ridiculed in International and global meetings and gatherings of Presidents were her leader could be picked up or issued arrest warrants.
“It remains inexplicable, that two days after the visa was said to have been issued to Mr Atiku Abubakar and advertised with pomp and pageantry, Mr Atiku deceived Nigerians that he was travelling to the United Kingdom, from where he would go to America, only for him to return home from the United Kingdom, when perhaps, he got wind of what awaited him in the United States of America.
“NATBuhariOsinbajo 2019 challenges Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to come clean and confess his sins that have made it difficult for him to step his foot on the American soil for some years or in the alternative pick up his first class return ticket from the NATBuhariOsinbajo office at 7, Association Avenue, Ilupeju, Lagos,” it said.
The group insisted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has not denied his comments that the American government wrote to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission of Nigeria in June 2006, on its intention to investigate Atiku Abubakar on corruption related charges.
It therefore urged Atiku to prove himself one way or another rather than making a fuss about a non-existent visa to the U.S.

Buhari:Mischief Makers, Behind My Cloned Rumors

Published

on

The President lashed out yesterday at the purveyors of the rumour that he was dead and the occupant of his seat is a clone.
The sponsors of the rumour are “ignorant and irreligious”, President Muhammmadu Buhari said yesterday in Poland.
There have been rumours that the real Buhari was dead and the person occupying the number one seat is another person or a clone, a Jibrin from Sudan or Niger.
The government has been warning Nigerians to shun fake news, stressing the security implication of such news items.
Reacting to the rumours of his clone for the first time, Buhari said many people had hoped he was dead during his ill health.
The President was responding to a question from a Nigerian who wanted to know if he was the real Buhari or the much talked about Jibril from Sudan, at a town hall meeting in Krakow, Poland.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President said: “It’s real me, I assure you. I will soon celebrate my 76th birthday and I will still go strong.’’
He added: “A lot of people hoped that I died during my ill health. Some even reached out to the Vice President to consider them to be his deputy because they assumed I was dead. That embarrassed him a lot and, of course, he visited me when I was in London convalescing… It’s real me; I assure you.”
The President said he was looking forward to celebrating his 76th birthday on December 17 and jocularly added: ‘‘If I am getting harassed by anyone, it is my grandchildren, who are getting too many.’’
He told his audience that his administration will continue to maintain focus and deliver on the three focal points of his campaign in 2015: security, economy and the fight against corruption.
‘‘Those in the Northeast will tell you that in spite of the recent setbacks, there is a difference between the time we came and before.
‘‘We are not doing badly on security, economy and agriculture. We have virtually stopped the importation of food, especially rice and we are saving a lot of money.
‘‘We now have food security and that has come with fiscal security because a lot of young educated people have not regretted going back to the farms and earning a respectable living.
‘‘I am afraid, this is not receiving good publicity… but a lot of people in the rural areas are enjoying the benefits of our interventions in agriculture,’’ he said.
President Buhari, who is in Poland to attend the UN Climate Change Conference, COP24, reaffirmed that no territory of Nigeria is under the control of Boko Haram terrorists. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and supportive of the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure the security of lives and property in the country.
While acknowledging that it has not been easy financing the security sector, the President said the Armed Forces were equal to the task.
He noted that it was regrettable that herdsmen and farmers’ clashes had been politicised, promising that the government will keep prioritising security because that is what many investors consider first before investing in the country.
On the fight against corruption, Buhari said all recovered stolen assets will be sold and the proceeds returned to the treasury for the benefit of Nigerians.
On women representation in his administration, the President told the meeting: ‘‘I have plans for all Nigerians. I am not a male chauvinist. If I’m a chauvinist, will I give the Finance ministry to women?’’
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Poland, Mr Eric Adagogo Bell-Gam, praised Nigerians living in the country for being worthy ambassadors of Nigeria.
Among those who met President Buhari were Mr Larry Ugwu, an artist and curator, who has lived in Poland for 40 years and has contributed immensely to promoting Nigerian cultural heritage in the Polish society; Anthony Egwuatu, a gynaecologist, who has lived in the country for 30 years and Mr Olomofe Larry, a human rights activist, who has fought for justice for fellow Nigerians in the host country.
The event was organised by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President Diaspora and Foreign Affairs.

Oyo 2019 :Ajimobi Versus The Masses, Oyo Decide /Ismaila Ashipa

Published

on

Its normal and usual for ruling parties to be apprehensive or jittery of what the future foretold as election period comes closer. Especially in states where there are cracks or depletion in the rank and file of membership of the parties holding the reign of government and also where the opposition parties are daily gathering momentum.
In our part of the world where there is abject poverty, a government is considered to be humane and preferable if she promotes more stomach infrastructures than physical development. If what the people considered to be their immediate welfare is readily made available. But if the stomach ‘infrastructurally’ based administration of the O’yato governor of Oyo state could lose in 2011 and that of Oshokomole of Ekiti could likewise be defeated in 2018, stomach infrastructure alone isn’t therefore a yardstick to winning elections.
As the February general elections draw near, the 8 year APC administration in Oyo ll be summoned to the court of the people. It all depends on how much the people appreciate the many laudable programmes of Governor AJIMOBI. The foreign investment operating in Oyo state, the structural face lift, the clean environment, security of lives and property, the dual carriage road, the Model Schools, the prompt payment of salaries, the reorganisation of the Ibadan Obaship, the unusual levies, the closure of our tertiary institutions, etc. If all the above had gone well with the majority people of Oyo state, continuity and consolidation is assured. And if not, explanations and convincing excuses have to be offered.
However, Oyo 2019 isn’t between the APC and the opposition parties nor is it between Chief Bayo Adelabu and opposition candidates, rather, it is strictly between Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi and the masses. Therefore, it won’t be an overstatement to say that AJIMOBI is the only Oyo state APC Candidate in 2019. Best wishes.
